INTRODUCTION
The silicon carbide powder was obtained by various chemical processes. Black silicon carbide containing SiC about 98.5%, its toughness is higher than green silicon carbide, mostly used for processing low tensile strength materials, such as glass, ceramics, stone, refractory materials, cast iron and non-ferrous metals. Green silicon carbide containing SiC more than 99%, good self-sharpening, mostly used for processing hard alloy, titanium alloy and optical glass, also used for honing cylinder liner and fine grinding high speed steel tools.
PROPERTIES
Black silicon carbide has a hardness of 9.5 on the Mohs scale, making it one of the hardest abrasive materials available. It also has excellent thermal conductivity, which allows it to dissipate heat quickly during grinding or cutting operations. Black silicon carbide is chemically inert and does not react with most chemicals, making it ideal for use in harsh environments.
APPLICATION
· Metallurgical Applications: Black silicon carbide is used in metallurgical applications, such as foundry castings, iron and steel making, and non-ferrous metal production.
· Refractory Materials: Black silicon carbide is used in the manufacture of refractory materials, such as kiln furniture, crucibles, and furnace linings, due to its high-temperature stability and chemical inertness.
· Composite Materials: Black silicon carbide can be used as a reinforcement material in composite materials, such as aerospace components and brake pads, due to its high strength and wear resistance.
· Electronics: Black silicon carbide is used in the production of electronic components, such as semiconductors and LEDs, due to its high thermal conductivity and low electrical resistance.
